Autistic pride day 2016: Inclusion and Neurodiversity

Beautiful Beauty Kumesine........ Friend in my head lol
Autistic Pride Day is celebrated annually worldwide. The sole purpose is to create better awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and to shift peoples focus of autism from "disease" to "difference". To mark this year's event, parents, caregivers, healthcare personnel, campaigners as well as individuals were brought together under one roof by Blazing Heart Autism Center/Foundation to celebrate people on the spectrum and to encourage all to be a voice for Autism in Port-Harcourt.
According to the Executive Director of Blazing Heart Autism Center/Foundation based in the City of Port-Harcourt Rivers State, Beauty Kumesine, the centre is committed to meet the needs of children with special needs and their families. They pay special attention and interest to Autism, behavioral modification and managements, speech and language delays, cognition, attention deficiencies and different levels and forms of learning and developmental disabilities etc.

BHAC believe that being on the spectrum is certainly not the end of an individuals life because there is hope, support and help for children and their families going through the challenge.

"Autism and Autism spectrum Disorders (ASD) are both general terms for complex disorders of brain development. This disorders are characterized in varying degrees, by verbal and nonverbal communications, repetitive behaviours and difficulty in social interactions etc. Autism can appear in infancy and early childhood causing delays in basic developmental areas such as learning to talk, play, and interact with others".

The occasion saw speakers share their wealth of knowledge on the subject matter, there was also a breakout interactive sessions, testimonials from parents with children on the spectrum, general question and answer sessions etc.

If you are a sufferer or know someone on the spectrum, don't let the label define who you are. You can do exceptional things and you are definitely not alone. Together, we can support and create an enabling environment for persons living any form of disability touching one life at a time.

The program was hosted by Blazing Heart Autism Center/ Foundation in partnership with Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board as well as the support from the Deputy Governor of Rivers State Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo. Should you have any questions or queries about Autism Spectrum Disorder, please contact Beauty via email: admin@blazingheartfoundation.org OR Call: +2348038852183.
