We live
in a world where a lot of things distract us from ourselves. All of these
distractions range from our family, work, children, environment, finance etc.
such that most of the time we forget that we ought to have a life of our own. A
life we are supposed to take charge and control of. Some individuals now
practically live their lives for others.
People
die unfulfilled, unaccomplished and untapped at the end of the day because they
have not properly managed to live out their full potentials. It is a good thing
to have to care and look after family and loved ones however, this attitude and
practice can be exhausting for the care giver considering the society we live
in. For example, married women in our society are expected to look after their
partner, children, manage their work and career schedules if they have one,
look after everyone’s health, family finance, shopping, cleaning……… and the
list goes on.
We
often forget that these caregivers are humans and they actually do have a
life. They have needs of their own from emotional, health, spiritual, and
mental to bodily needs. We also forget that stress can take a toll on their
health and wellbeing. Let’s not forget that they need us as much as we need
them remember, you have not lived until you live for yourself.
If you
are a caregiver aka “Mother hen” pause for a minute and ask yourself “if anything happens to me today?…….. Your
guess is as good as mine abi? Life will always go on…… Hmmm will you be missed
“YES” but then that’s it. This is not limited to women ooo…… it is you sister,
brother, aunty and uncle who looks and takes care of everyone in your family.
This can range from looking after loved ones that are sick, in school, prison, with
disability, mental health etc. in fact; you are expected to be everywhere doing
everything. Nawah!!!
It
won’t hurt to ask for help as everyone needs one at some point. Take a break
and own your life for once. Set goals and targets, pursue your dreams and start achieving them bit
by bit. Take a break to run and control your own life, doing you and you alone.
By so doing, you can take care of your body, spirit, soul, finance, habit,
emotions, mind, character/attitude………. Etc. again you need to talk to someone,
delegate responsibilities and take charge of your life.
Looks
like a lot of work right? However, this can only be achievable with the help of
God. It is not automatic in today’s world where there is a lot of chaos and a
lot of expectations. Ask God for help and guidance, do you and live.
