More than
three million people gathered across France today to stage defiant marches in a
moving tribute to the 17 people killed in terror attacks across the country
last week. With the majority of revellers flocking to the capital where
cartoonists and passers-by were murdered by Islamic fanatics last week, British
Prime Minister David Cameron joined crowds marching in their memory.
Arm in arm
with the President Francois Hollande and a host of other world leaders, he was
among an estimated 3.3million people taking part in the rally. Elsewhere,
US Attorney General Eric Holder joined officials at the Interior Ministry where
talks were held about threats posed by Islamist extremism. Standing in the
centre of a front-row of world leaders, President Holland told crowds: 'Today,
Paris is the capital of the world.”
Reading this
article on the dailymail I couldn't help but ask myself, how much is one human
life worth in my beloved country Nigeria? How much Really? How did we get to
the point we are now? In situations like this, togetherness, support and
collective interest in fighting terrorism is what should prevail in any given
country. The world will only support nations that value her people. They will
only back and support you in times like this knowing that the lives of your
citizenry are a priority.
It is
however a shame that this cannot be said of Nigeria. A few days ago more than
2,000 lives were lost in baga. This is not just massacre it is genocide
happening right before our eyes. Our government play politics with our lives,
valuable lives that should matter within and outside the country. Okay what
about the internally displaced persons? Displaced
with no adequate basic amenities in YOUR OWN COUNTRY? If our own lives don’t
matter to us, the world will continue to look on, they won't stand by us.
Simples!!!
Where human
lives matter, their government pay attention. Leaders stand up; people put
selfish interests aside to pursue common good. Where lives matter, people stand
against injustice, terrorism corrupt practices and seek justice together. Where
lives matter people stand up united for the weak and vulnerable. In a nation
where human lives matter LIFE IS VALUED!!!....
Hmmm let's not be busy playing politics while terrorists are busy taking lives and claiming territories. Every Nigerian live should matter irrespective of the state they come from.
